BDO Malta has strengthened its senior audit leadership team through the appointment of Andrea Kis and Edward Bugeja as Audit Directors. These appointments further consolidate its position as Malta’s leading audit and assurance firm, with a long-standing reputation for audit quality, trust, and professional excellence.
The firm’s audit leadership team is anchored by Partner and Head of Audit Sam Spiridonov, who is now joined by Audit Directors Andrea Kis and Edward Bugeja.
Collectively, they form a cohesive audit leadership structure that underpins the delivery of high-quality audit services across a broad and diverse portfolio of local and international clients.
Sam Spiridonov leads the audit service line at BDO Malta. He also oversees technical standards across engagements and represents BDO Malta within the wider BDO network in key technical and regulatory capacities, including as a subject matter expert on IFRS and audit quality reviews.
Andrea Kis joined BDO Malta as an Auditor in 2008, working her way up over the years to lead the firm’s Audit Quality function, including oversight of the firm’s System of Quality Management. She now plays a central role in ensuring consistency across audit engagements, while also providing direction to the audit service line on audit quality matters. Andrea’s appointment as Audit Director will now see her transition into hands-on audit engagement delivery.
Edward Bugeja brings extensive experience across statutory audit and financial reporting, with exposure to regulated sectors including banking, funds and investment services. He leads engagement teams in the delivery of audit services and is responsible for ensuring consistent application of audit methodology and quality standards across a wide range of assignments, from SMEs to listed entities and regulated financial institutions. Since joining BDO Malta in 2019, he has progressed through the firm’s audit function, reflecting the strength of its internal development framework.
Commenting on these appointments, Partner and CEO at BDO Malta Mark Attard said:
“Our audit leadership team reflects the depth and experience that clients expect from BDO Malta. Sam, Andrea and Edward each bring strong technical capability and leadership experience, and together they ensure we continue to deliver audit services defined by quality, consistency, and trust in an increasingly complex environment.”
He added that continuity of leadership remains central to the firm’s long-term approach.
“Our ability to develop strong audit leaders from within our ranks is fundamental to our quality and service model. It ensures consistency in quality, stronger client relationships, and effective responses to evolving regulatory and market expectations.”
Speaking on the strength of the audit leadership team, Sam Spiridonov added: “Andrea and Edward bring complementary strengths that reinforce our audit leadership structure and support our ability to deliver consistently high-quality audit services across all engagements. Our focus remains on developing talent from within and ensuring continuity in leadership. This approach strengthens technical capability and supports the long-term relationships we build with our clients.”
With more than 48 years of presence in Malta, BDO Malta remains one of the country’s leading audit, tax, and advisory firms, serving clients across key sectors including financial services, gaming, crypto, aviation, online retail, manufacturing and other regulated industries.
