Ian Deguara, the former Maltese Information and Data Protection Commissioner, has joined Mamo TCV Advocates as a Senior Regulatory Advisor.
Mr Deguara’s term at the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner came to an end in March 2026.
Mamo TCV Advocates’ Managing Partner, Joe Borg Bartolo, welcomed Mr Deguara to the firm, describing his appointment as an important milestone for both the firm and Mr Deguara.
Claude Micallef Grimaud and Antoine Camilleri, both partners heading the firm’s Privacy and Data Protection department, noted that, with Mr Deguara joining the department in this senior role, Mamo TCV Advocates now has a team of eight full-time lawyers and other professionals focusing on data protection matters.
The team regularly advises and assists various local and foreign clients and acts as external data protection officer (DPO) for many such entities.
“After more than two decades dedicated to the field of data protection and privacy, including serving as Malta's Information and Data Protection Commissioner, I am excited to embark on this new chapter,” Mr Deguara said.
Some spoke of concerns they have over prospective employees using AI in their applications.
Nikolaos Fertakis previously served as HSBC Bank Malta’s Chief Operating Officer.
Keeping materials in use for longer is no longer just about waste reduction, he said.
This marks the fourth occasion on which he has been appointed to this role.
