Moneybase has taken out a safeguarding insurance policy on the money its clients hold in their Moneybase accounts, Alan Cuschieri, founder and CEO of Moneybase, said, adding that it gives every Moneybase client additional peace of mind on top of the safeguarding already in place.
The insurance policy is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London and Starr Europe Insurance Limited, with cover of up to €5 million. Clients’ money at Moneybase is already held in dedicated safeguarding accounts, kept separate from the company’s own funds, reconciled daily and ring-fenced from its creditors at all times, the company said, adding that it never lends client money.
“As Malta’s trusted financial partner, protecting and growing our clients’ wealth is our top priority. As we mark 55 years since the group pioneered financial services in Malta, our mission is to keep strengthening the service our clients receive for many years to come,” Alan Cuschieri, founder and CEO of Moneybase, said.
The insurance has been taken out voluntarily, over and above these safeguarding arrangements, as an additional layer of protection for clients, the company said. “In the highly unlikely event that Moneybase were ever to become insolvent and the safeguarding accounts held less than clients are owed, the policy pays the difference, whatever the cause of the shortfall,” the company said.
The cover is complimentary and applies automatically to every Moneybase client, the company said.
Moneybase said that any payment by the insurance is made into those accounts for the benefit of clients and can never be paid to the company.
Starr Europe Insurance Limited, which leads the policy, is based in Malta and regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority.
