HSBC Malta announced that Nikolaos Fertakis has returned to the bank in the position of interim Chief Risk Officer, succeeding Steven Beddow.
Mr Fertakis joined the HSBC Group in 2012 in Greece as Head of Quality & Business Risk Control Management and later as Chief Operating Officer.
He joined HSBC Bank Malta in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer, a role he occupied until 2020, before taking on senior positions at HSBC Continental Europe
In his most recent role as Head of Regulatory Risk Integration and Oversight for HSBC Continental Europe, he led strategic plans to implement new operating models governing European Risk and Compliance.
Mr Fertakis’ appointment has already received regulatory approval.
Last September, HSBC Holdings concluded a deal with CrediaBank that is set to see the Greek bank acquire its majority shareholding in HSBC Malta for around €200 million. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval.
HSBC Bank Malta CEO Geoffrey Fichte told WhosWho.mt that the deal isn’t stuck and local and European regulators need time to properly go through it.
