The Founder of Virgata Group, Jordi Goetstouwers Odena, has described the company’s recent investment in Plaza Centres plc as a clear sign of its long-term commitment to Malta.
Virgata HQ Limited, a subsidiary of the Luxembourg-based private investment firm Virgata Group S.à r.l., increased its stake in Plaza Centres to 37.615 per cent, following the acquisition of a 31.4 per cent shareholding from Mapfre MSV Life plc, becoming the majority shareholder. Virgata Group already held a 6.2 per cent stake of Plaza Centres’ issued share capital.
The company does not typically comment on investment decisions publicly; however, in this instance, Virgata’s Founder emphasised their confidence in Malta’s market potential and Plaza Centres’ future prospects.

“The firm intends to take an active role in supporting Plaza’s future growth and development and the creation of value for all shareholders,” Mr Goetstouwers Odena said.
Virgata specialises in commercial property investments across Europe.
It’s mostly known for the Van Nelle Fabriek in Rotterdam, a circa 59,000 square metre converted factory complex that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Adding a personal connection to Malta, Mr Goetstouwers Odena maintains a residence on the island. He also is mentioned along Valeria Goetstouwers Odena as part of the Artistic Director’s circle at ŻfinMalta, a local dance company.
