Steven Farrugia on Tuesday (today) announced that he has been named Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at iGaming data and reporting firm PlayAIO.
In his announcement, he remarked that this represents a “significant milestone” in his career, and he is excited about the journey ahead.
Founded in 2023, PlayAIO specialises in turning AI-powered data into actionable insights for the iGaming industry.
Mr Farrugia has ample experience working in data-related roles within the iGaming industry, having most recently occupied the position of Senior Data Scientist at Strive Gaming.
He was also Data Scientist at ComeOn Group, Executive Quantitative Risk Advisor at Grant Thornton Malta, as well as Business Intelligence Consultant at Deloitte Digital.
Throughout his career, he has supported operators such as DraftKings-owned Golden Nugget.
“Focusing on the iGaming industry, PlayAIO is at the forefront of innovation, and I am eager to contribute to our mission of driving technological advancements and achieving remarkable milestones together,” Mr Farrugia continued.
He remarked that he looks forward to helping customers utilise the power of data to “create further value” with the assistance of the PlayAIO engine, advanced machine learning models and reporting suite.
Mr Farrugia also holds a Master of Science in Data Science and Systems Complexity from University of Groningen and a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems, Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications from University of London.
PlayAIO stated that his analytical skills and proficiency in programming languages will be critical in helping the company optimise operators’ processes and transform strategic initiatives into measurable business outcomes through data-driven decision-making.
CEO Joshua Gibbs welcomed Mr Farrugia to the team, stating that he will be key to building on PlayAIO’s success.

In his PlayAIO bio, Mr Farrugia remarked that his vision is for the company to become a “leading B2B supplier of machine learning and AI in the iGaming industry.”
