When it comes to luxury rides, Malta’s top CEOs are making bold choices. In a rapid-fire survey of 50 executives featured in MaltaCEOs 2025, a clear winner emerged in the ultimate SUV showdown: 56 per cent said they preferred Range Rover over Tesla, confirming that the British SUV brand still reigns supreme among the country’s business elite.

The findings come from the Quick Fire Questions – a light-hearted but revealing section of the MaltaCEOs 2025 print edition, which features in-depth interviews with 50 prominent locally based CEOS. The interviews are now being serialised online on MaltaCEOs.mt and across our LinkedIn and Facebook channels.

Beyond brand preference, the data also shows that locally based CEOs are steadily buying into the plug-in hybrid and electric revolution. While 38 per cent of respondents still favour traditional fuel-powered cars – with some openly admitting their love for “fuel-guzzling cars” – an equal 38 per cent have already shifted to fully electric vehicles.

The remaining 24 per cent revealed a mix of preferences, mostly leaning towards hybrid models. Notably, Ray DeMicoli of DeMicoli & Associates and BNF Bank’s David Power both singled out hybrids as their go-to, while AX Group’s Claire Zammit Xuereb voiced a love for American-style muscle cars. FGS Malta’s Peter Stroud kept it simple: he’s just “not into cars.”

As for more unique choices, Malta Enterprise CEO George Gregory named the humble Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) as his car of choice, while John Schembri of Shield Security Consultants drives an Audi QS3.

EVs currently make up just 3 to 5 per cent of Malta’s 400,000-strong car fleet, but these business leaders could be setting the pace. Their preferences not only reflect personal taste, but also signal a growing openness within the corporate world to cleaner, more sustainable transport solutions.

While the road ahead remains divided between petrol heads and early adopters, Malta’s CEOs are clearly at the wheel of a changing automotive landscape.

This article is part of the ongoing serialisation of 50 interviews featured in MaltaCEOs 2025 – the premium print sister brand to MaltaCEOs.mt, celebrating some of the country’s most influential business leaders.
