Aviaserve Ltd, a ground handling operator, has announced the appointment of Aaron Azzopardi as its new General Manager.
Mr Azzopardi brings nearly two decades of experience in engineering, process improvement, and strategic management to the role.
His career began after graduating as a mechanical engineer from the University of Malta, followed by a master’s degree in Engineering Management at Brunel University in London. He also holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, a credential that highlights his expertise in process improvement and has strongly influenced his professional approach.
Throughout his 18-year career, Mr Azzopardi has held a variety of roles spanning project engineering, process management, and strategic development. His previous positions include Project Engineer, Continuous Improvement & Process Quality Engineer, Planning Manager, Process Manager, and Head of Strategic Development and Profit Ability. Most recently, he served as General Manager at Delta (Malta) Ltd and was also a member of the Manufacturing Economic Group at the Malta Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking to MaltaCEOs.mt following his appointment, Mr Azzopardi expressed both gratitude and excitement about his new role.
“I am extremely humbled and excited to be appointed as the General Manager for Aviaserve and Aviaworks and grateful for the opportunity to be at the helm of the leading ground handling operation in Malta,” he shared. He noted that the company provides “passenger, ramp and cargo services to over 70 per cent of the flights arriving to and departing from the Malta International Airport.”
Reflecting on the road ahead, Mr Azzopardi acknowledged the challenges that come with any leadership role but emphasised his readiness to embrace them. “Every new leadership job has its own challenges, and I’m ready to approach them with a sense of anticipation and determination,” he said.
He also highlighted his focus on collaboration and innovation, aiming to blend his own skills with those of the existing team. “I see these challenges as valuable ways to combine the skills that I bring from my past experiences with those of the extremely skilful and experienced management team at Aviaserve and Aviaworks, fostering strong collaborations, and developing innovative solutions,” he remarked.
Mr Azzopardi concluded by underscoring his main objective: creating a work environment where every team member can excel. “My overriding objective is to create an environment that enables every team member to everyday contribute their best capabilities to the passenger experience, allowing the company to build on the current success and to achieve higher levels of operational excellence for the benefit of all stakeholders,” he affirmed.
With his extensive background and clear vision, Mr Azzopardi is set to play a key role in steering Aviaserve towards further growth and excellence in the aviation services sector.
