Maria Loumpourdi, Global Head of Talent Development at Betsson Group, on Monday shared that she managed to overcome her fear of heights and climb Mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in Greece.

Despite facing an unexpected storm and adverse weather conditions, Ms Loumpourdi, together with a group of other people, soldiered on and successfully reached the Mytikas summit of Mount Olympus at an altitude of 2,918 metres on Sunday.

“Invaluable lessons of leadership, personal growth, and teamwork emerge from moments of utmost fear and struggle,” she explained.

“It’s incredible how a group of strangers can evolve into the most significant people in each other’s lives for at least those intense 48 hours. Why? Because our lives were literally tied to the same rope,” she added.

Having prevailed over her fear of heights, Ms Loumpourdi concluded by saying: “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Ms Loumpourdi has worked at Malta-headquartered Betsson Group for more than a year, having initially joined as Global Senior Talent Development Manager. After just over six months in the role, she was promoted to her present position as Global Head of Talent Development. Over the course of her career, she has led talent development functions and teams across various industries, ranging from iGaming, banking, and manufacturing, and is also a certified coach and coaching supervisor.

She holds a Master of Science in Advanced Educational Studies and is in the process of reading for a Doctor of Education in Leadership Development, both from University of Glasgow, among other qualifications.
