Cyclists

Peter Grech, Founder and CEO of local creative marketing agency BRND WGN, has revealed his plans to cycle around Sicily over the span of six days to raise funds for cancer research.

Mr Grech will be embarking on this challenge together with his teammates from the Alive Charity Foundation – a registered NGO dedicated to raising funds for medical research in Malta.

“Unfortunately, over the years, I have witnessed countless friends and family brush with cancer,” the BRND WGN CEO wrote on social media.

“Some stories have had positive outcomes, whilst others have been, and some still are, extremely painful to endure,” he continued.

Mr Grech and his 35 teammates will be kicking off their challenge on 1st May.

“The plan is to ride for six days, rain or shine, till we make our way back to Pozzallo. My bigger plan is to use this challenge as an excuse to reach out to my network to help raise money forthis very worthy cause, to incest in research and innovation that will go to help make ’cancer’ less of a scary word,” he wrote.

“My colleagues at BRND WGN have already lent a creative hand to build a new website for the foundation, and one of our clients, Dr JUICE, have gone ahead and become title sponsors along with a number of other corporate sponsors, but now I’m asking for your help too,” he continued.

Mr Grech launched an online fundraiser to collect funds for this cause. As of yet, it has collected €4,140 out of its €5,000 goal.

This is far from the Alive Charity Foundation’s first attempt at fundraising. Since its inception in 2013, with the support of corporate companies and the Maltese community, the NGO has donated over €135,000 towards breast cancer research, €170,000 towards children’s cancer research, and €80,000 towards a children’s recreational area within Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre.

Between 2019 and 2021, the sum of €227,000 was donated to the University of Malta to sustain seven cancer research projects.
