Jonathan Cardona

Jonathan Cardona, who until recently served as CEO of Residency Malta, passed away aged 50 after battling cancer.

Mr Cardona was appointed to the role of CEO of Residency Malta, the Government entity that administers and promotes a number of Malta residency programmes, in early 2024.

He also served as Chairperson of the National Development and Social Fund, Malta’s sovereign wealth fund.

He previously served as CEO of Enemalta between 2021 and 2023, as CEO of Komunità Malta between 2020 and 2021, and as CEO of the Individual Investor Programme between 2014 and 2020.

Behind the scenes, he played an instrumental role in the Labour Party’s successful 2013 election campaign.

Prime Minister Robert Abela paid tribute to Mr Cardona, saying that although he was aware of his health struggles, news of his death still came as a shock.

“With his work behind the scenes, Jonathan was instrumental in helping the PL regain the people’s trust in 2013,” Dr Abela said. “In all subsequent legislatures, he served our country in several leadership roles within important government entities.”

“I always saw seriousness and loyalty in every task he carried out, as well as a smile and energy in every step of his life,” the Prime Minister added. “I extend my sincere condolences to his entire family.”
