Maltese CEO Angele Giuliano from AcrossLimits has been appointed European Innovation Council (EIC) Ambassador for the third year in a row in recognition for her work in relation to the innovation ecosystem in Europe.
The announcement was made on 19th March by EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova, during the EIC Summit 2024 in Brussels.
After, the appointed EIC ambassadors held bilateral meetings with the EU Commissioner in which they discussed upcoming opportunities and the way forward. Ms Giuliano then had a discussion with EIC Director Jean David Malo and EIC Board President Michiel Scheffer.
“Europe is brimming with innovators with the potential to be competitive on the global stage, and with the resources made available by the EIC, we can kick-start the process of turning their ideas into reality,” Ms Giuliano commented.
The EIC is the EU’s flagship innovation agency that has several programmes that work to identify, develop, and scale up breakthrough technologies in their different stages of development. To spread the word and make sure everyone knows about this support, the EIC has ambassadors in each EU country.
Ms Giuliano was in attendance at the EIC Summit on behalf of her company also as one of the core partners of Women TechEU, an EU project whose primary objective is to deliver €12 million in equity-free grants, in which 160 women-led deep tech companies will each receive funding of up to €75,000.
The two-year project aims to bridge the gender gap in the deep tech industry and empower women-led companies and innovators from all over the EU and Horizon Europe associated countries.
Women represent less than a third of all deep tech entrepreneurs. This disparity is also coupled with a significant funding gap, due to women-led firms receiving less than two per cent of all funding from venture capitalist investors.
Since 2001, Ms Giuliano has been at the helm of AcrossLimits, a technology and consulting firm that has participated in over 80 EU projects.
“Ms Giuliano has also been at the pinnacle of promoting the involvement of women in business leadership, having also served as President of the Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs,” AcrossLimits explained.
She also carries out work as an evaluator and reviewer of research projects for the EU and several national governments, is a business angel, as well as a founding partner of Future Story Capital, bringing together European companies with investors from the GCC countries and beyond.
