Marcel Cassar / APS

APS Bank has announced that its CEO, Marcel Cassar, will be named Executive Director on the bank’s Board of Directors as of 1st January 2025.

The appointment follows amendments to the bank’s Memorandum & Articles of Association approved during the 2024 Annual General Meeting, and subsequent regulatory approval.

Mr Cassar, who has been at the helm of APS Bank since 2016, brings over 35 years of financial and banking expertise to the Board.

He commenced his career with Price Waterhouse Malta in 1987 before holding senior positions at the Malta Financial Services Centre (now the Malta Financial Services Authority), Lombard Bank Malta, and FIMBank. Notably, he served as General Manager at Lombard Bank from 1996 to 2004 and as First Executive Vice President and CFO at FIMBank from 2004 to 2015.

Beyond these roles, Mr Cassar has made notable contributions to the banking sector. He served as Chairman of the Malta Bankers’ Association during two separate terms, from 2018 to 2020 and again from 2022 to 2024. These roles also led to his appointment on the board of the Brussels-based European Banking Federation (EBF).

Mr Cassar is a Certified Public Accountant and a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants. He also holds an MBA in Bank Financial Management, awarded jointly by the University of Wales and Manchester Business School in 1995.
