Mark Gauci, CEO at the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), is set to retire from the position after 20 years at the helm.
The news came during a Parliament sitting on Wednesday, during which time Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi made the announcement.
The announcement was made at the closing stages of the sitting, where Members of Parliament discussed OHSA’s financial estimates and budget for the year.
Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi said that Dr Gauci will leave the authority as his legacy, leaving the position once he reaches retirement age.
Both Government officials and Nationalist Member of Parliament Claudette Buttigieg thanked him for his work over the years, stretching back to the authority’s formation back in 2002.
OHSA was established following the publishing of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority Act in November 2000, and was brought into force in its entirety in January 2002. The authority was formed in order to ensure that the physical, psychological and social wellbeing of all workers in all workplaces are “promoted and safeguarded by whosever has such a duty”.
