“At a time of global geopolitical tensions, climate change, and the rise of automation and AI, as a higher education institution, we must continue to strive for answers,” said MCAST CEO Stephen Vella.
His comments were made at the sixth edition of MCAST’s Research and Innovation EXPO on 25th and 26th November at the MCAST Resource Centre Auditorium.
The event highlighted the array of research projects conducted by the College with a focus on how research is driving advancements in science, society, the environment, finance, industry, and education, wrote the institution in a statement.
Mr Vella added that “the research projects presented at [the] Expo show such varied themes, yet they share a common objective – supporting our society through challenging times with a social purpose, advancing and disseminating knowledge, testing ideas that aspire to positive change, and finding solutions.”
Deputy Principal for Research and Innovation Tatjana Chircop reflected on the importance of inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers: “This Expo is also about inspiring our students: the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.”
Dr Chircop emphasised that the College aims to empower students to reach their full potential by setting an example, engaging in research, and fostering a culture of exploration and discovery. She noted that this approach helps instil the value of knowledge acquisition and sharing among students.
This year’s EXPO featured presentations across a number of thematic tracks that included Cultural Contexts and Beyond, Exploring Marginality, Integrating New Approaches, Industry Collaboration and Innovation and Reshaping Education, added the statement.
Over the two days, the EXPO curated by a research team led by Lorna Bonnici West, showcased more than 30 research projects representing the College’s collaborative efforts.
