Michael J. Agius has been appointed Managing Director of Hili Properties plc, continuing his career within the wider Hili Ventures group.
His appointment follows a series of senior roles within Hili Ventures. He joined the group as Director of Finance before moving into the role of Director of Mergers and Acquisitions and, most recently, Director of Real Estate, Mergers and Acquisitions.
Prior to joining Hili Ventures, Mr Agius spent more than seven years at Grant Thornton Malta, where he built his career in transaction advisory services. He joined the firm as a Senior Executive within Transaction Advisory Services and progressed through the ranks, eventually serving as Senior Manager of Transaction Advisory Services before leaving in 2021.
Mr Agius is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, pursued ACCA studies, and completed an online advanced valuation course through NYU Stern School of Business.
He also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Tigné Mall plc, having been appointed to the board in January 2024. His appointment followed Hili’s acquisition of a stake in the shopping complex in October 2023 through a transaction valued at approximately €6 million, which made it Tigné Mall’s second-largest shareholder.
In March of this year, Hili Properties plc had announced that Georgios Kakouras had ceased to hold the office of Managing Director, following the conclusion of an internal investigation, while interim CEO Daniela Pavia continued leading the company until a permanent appointment.
Mr Kakouras had been temporarily suspended in January 2026 pending the outcome of the internal investigation. At the time, Hili Properties announced that Ms Pavia would step into the role of Interim CEO with immediate effect, though no further details were provided regarding the investigation.
A Greek national, Mr Kakouras held senior executive positions within the Hili Ventures group, including serving as CEO of Harvest Technology plc until earlier this year, when he was replaced by the company’s CFO, Neacail Micallef.
Hili Properties owns and manages commercial real estate for lease across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta and Romania. Its portfolio spans office buildings and spaces, grocery-anchored shopping centres, healthcare facilities and McDonald’s restaurant properties in key commercial districts.
Hili Ventures operates across 10 countries in Central, Eastern and Western Europe and North Africa, with interests spanning McDonald’s and Apple operations, logistics, marine and engineering, technology, oil and gas, property, hospitality and leasing.
