Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef said Richard E. Grant’s new travel series could help promote the country among quality-conscious tourists.

The Maltese Islands were the centre of the first episode of Richard E. Grant’s Very Modern Odyssey, a four-part travel series in which the presenter recreates Odysseus’s voyage home.

Gozo has long been identified as a possible location of Ogygia, the island on which Odysseus was held prisoner by Calypso for seven years.

“This collaboration gives the Maltese Islands an important platform to reach discerning international travellers through an engaging and authentic story,” Mr Micallef said.

“By showcasing our history, culture, gastronomy and unique character, the programme demonstrates that Malta offers the depth of experience increasingly sought by quality-conscious visitors that MTA’s marketing and PR are specifically targeting in its international promotion of the Maltese Islands.”

Malta Tourism Authority Chairman Charles Mangion said that having the Maltese Islands feature so prominently in the opening episode of Very Modern Odyssey strengthens the island's international visibility among audiences who value culture, history and authentic experiences.

"This is the type of exposure that supports our ambition to attract quality tourism throughout the year,' he said.

Malta Tourism Authority Director of International Marketing Arthur Grima added that Richard E. Grant brings genuine curiosity and enthusiasm to his journey, allowing audiences to discover the Maltese Islands through a highly engaging lens.

"Featuring Malta at the very beginning of this international journey provides valuable exposure to travellers looking for distinctive cultural and historical experiences," he said.
