Have you ever had a boss you were simply uninspired by? Someone that you may be grateful is on leave, allowing you to breathe easy in an office that seems warmer without them.

They do not necessarily have to be all that bad. It could be, perhaps, that they simply added little value to the work of the team, their absence only noticed  when it was necessary to sign off on something.

Even more importantly – could you be that boss?

In a recent post on her LinkedIn, Marija Hammon, Marketing Director at Relax Gaming Ltd, shared her perspective on what truly sets a great leader apart. Leadership, she emphasised, is not just about skills, knowledge, or qualifications – it’s about the impact you have on those around you.

“Nobody likes a leader who they aren’t inspired by,” Ms Hammon stated. “Outstanding leadership is about how you make people feel, how you inspire, and how you create a culture of trust and respect.”

According to Ms Hammon, great leadership is built on six essential traits:

Integrity

A leader’s strength comes from staying true to their core values. ‘‘Integrity means standing proudly behind your decisions and leading with honesty,” she explained.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of any successful team. “A leader must believe in themselves, their team, and the entire process,” said Ms Hammon. “Without trust, there is no real leadership.”

Empathy

“You are dealing with humans who feel emotions,” she noted. “Listen, support, and express gratitude.” Recognising that leadership is about people, not just processes, is key.

Vision

A great leader knows where they are headed and why. “It’s not just about having a vision but also effectively communicating it,” Ms Hammon explained.

Support

“Leadership is about lifting others up and ensuring they have the resources to succeed,” she said. True leaders don’t wait for their team to ask for help, but they anticipate needs and step in proactively.

Inspiration

A leader should ignite ambition and encourage others to reach their full potential. “Make magic happen by shining yourself and helping others shine,” Ms Hammon emphasised.

“Leadership is not about management. Leadership is about facilitation. It’s about creating an impactful environment and empowering those around you.”

Her insights serve as a reminder that exceptional leadership goes beyond authority – it’s about influence, inspiration, and encouraging growth.
