Michael Rudi Seifert, CEO and Managing Director at Malta-based Seifert Systems Ltd, has reaffirmed the company’s plans to continue investing in sustainable operations at its Ħal Far factory.

This came after the company on Thursday inaugurated an extension to its factory after an investment of €12 million.

The German company, which has been based in Malta for more than 50 years and forms part of Seifert Group, produces temperature control systems aimed at keeping electronics in industrial environments at a constant temperature level.

During the event, it was also announced that the company aims to continue expanding and investing more than €9 million to diversify its products. Through the latter investment, Seifert Systems, which today has a workforce of almost 450, will seek to create more job opportunities aside from the 140 new jobs that were created through the factory extension.

Speaking during the inauguration, Mr Seifert stated that the company “never chose to lay off workers, even during the biggest international challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic”. He reaffirmed that Seifert Systems gives “great importance” to the employee training through which they continue to “develop and grow in their careers”.

Mr Seifert added that “steps towards sustainable operations aren’t only expenses, but investments towards the saving of resources and funds”.

Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the event, and during an address noted that the company became the “first of its kind” to have a factory in Malta that works without harming the environment. He said that this comes as part of the Government’s economic vision towards sustainability by focusing on equipment which is “state-of-the-art to reach the highest levels”.

He also made reference to the efficient means through which the project was completed, having only been announced 18 months ago. Prime Minister Abela said that the investment planned by the company involves the diversification of new electronic products in Malta as it aims to delve into new markets.

He also stated that even with strong economic growth, Government “continues to take strategic decisions that will help businesses and families through its energy subsidy”. Here he also clarified that declarations that the energy subsidy will be coming to an end “are not coming from Government” and ensured that “it will still be provided”.

Additionally, Prime Minister Abela stated that the company does not only employ people in Malta, but is also “working to improve the abilities of its workers in sectors such as engineering”. He said that Government acknowledges the challenges that come with employee training amid a reality where businesses are aiming to find more talent to employ, and as a result needs to “give priority to education by incentivising those students learning subjects related to science, engineering and mathematics, among others”.
