Toly

As manufacturing giant Toly Products approaches its 50th anniversary of manufacturing in Malta this year, its executive team looks back on the difficulties of 2020 and the values that enabled the company to continue on its incredible trajectory of growth.

Sharing messages and words of wisdom in a recent post on the company’s social media, here’s what the team had to say.

Powering into the future

“2020 was an intense and volatile year and has taught us never to take anything for granted. Everybody has their own destiny, but not everybody has the courage to follow it. I promise you we will, because the future is now.” – Andy Gatesy, Chairman & CEO

A focus on sustainability & innovation

“This year, we have officially changed our logo from ‘Toly – Passionate About Packaging’ to include ‘Building on Beauty’, as we continue to evolve into a beauty powerhouse, offering a 360-degree approach with sustainable and innovate solutions.” – Dorien Bianco, Chief Marketing Officer

Sharing family values

“As a team, we need to laugh together, cry together, and win together to survive, grow, and prosper. We are one family, the Toly family, with many different cultures, but with all the same values.” – Sam Xuereb, Chief Business Officer – Asia

Patience is a virtue

“We must always be positive, optimistic, and look to the future, as well as having patience. Rome was not built in a day, but bricks were laid down every hour.” – Amanda Xuereb, Chief Business Development Officer

Investing in the long term

“Cash is king, and as a privately owned business we have maintained a conservative approach towards finance, building a strong balance sheet, focusing on liquidity and always investing in the long term.” – Nick Xuereb, Chief Financial Officer.

Continued creativity

“Our customers remain at the centre of everything that we do. Despite the lack of face-to-face contact, we have found new ways to connect with them, intrigue them, and excite them with our creativity and forward-looking vision.” – Tom Grainger, Chief Commercial Officer

The soul of Toly

“Let us all show gratitude and be thankful that we survived this crazy year and retained the soul of Toly. I am proud of the sacrifices that everybody has made to avoid redundancies and maintain the family spirit.” – Frank de Vleeschouwer, Chief Commercial Officer – USA

Never give up

“Scaling up is not linear. There are bumps in the curve, like what we saw in a pandemic year. The key is to maintain ambition – be resilient, persevere and never give up.” – Gabriel Tezenas du Montcel, Chief Commercial Officer – Europe

Play to win

“Toly is different, but it is the people who make the difference. In fact, our people make this company. So let us enjoy playing to win and continue to make a lasting impact.” – Steve Vella, Chief Human Resources Officer

Driven by values

“Our vision is clear, our mission is clear, and our purpose is clear, driven by our core values, which revolve around people, passion, pride and creativity.” – Giovanni Bellomi, Chief Operations Officer

50 years in Malta

“As a company, we have not lost our ambition, and I am proud that in 2021 we will celebrate our 50th anniversary of manufacturing in Malta, as if it were the next phase in our scaling up journey.” – Olaf Zahra, Chief Officer Technology & Sustainability

A new bright future

“I am happy that 2020 is now behind us. 2020 was a year of transition between a past time and a new bright future. We survived, we continued to invest, and we maintained a strong sense of community.” – Keith Pretty, Chief Tooling Officer
