‘There is no ceiling,’ Ann Fenech says while encouraging women to join maritime sector

Ann Fenech, President of the Comité Maritime International and Partner and Head of Marine Litigation Department at Fenech & Fenech Advocates, has stressed the importance of encouraging women who want to work in the maritime sector to do so, saying that "there is no ceiling."

Speaking during a  Malta Sustainability Forum event about women in the blue economy, Dr Fenech said that any woman who is passionate about the maritime sector, the blue economy, and wants to participate and can contribute, should be given every encouragement to do so.

“But not only just encouragement. We as role models who actually operate within this sector, need to convince them that if that is what they want to do, there is no ceiling there. Although there might be the impression that there is, and although there are difficulties, if you’re passionate enough, go for it.”

She said that this is the positive message which needs to be passed on. “If they do come across any form of negativity which might impinge on that feeling to proceed, then with enough passion and enough support, they can overcome it. Its possible and it can be done,” she said.
