Thomas Annand has been promoted to Head of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) at Malta Stock Exchange plc (MSE), he announced on Monday.

His new role comes after nine months working at the exchange as AML Consultant. In that role he was tasked with designing its business risk assessment, implementing a new internal suspicious activity report form for employees and identifying high-risk clients that still require enhanced due diligence (EDD), among a number of other responsibilities.

Prior to his time at MSE, he was Compliance and AML Manager at iGaming firm Tipster Group for four months. Mr Annand’s experience also includes stints at Smarkets, Nutrition Centre, Allen Hoole Criminal Defence Solicitors and Ryman.

Mr Annand holds a Master of Science in Forensic Accounting from University of Portsmouth and a Bachelor of Science and Economics in Criminology from Aberystwyth University. He also has an International Compliance Association (ICA) Advanced Certificate in AML.

He describes himself as a specialist in AML and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CTF), Know Your Customer (KYC) and EDD, as well as designing risk assessments for businesses and customers.

MSE commenced operations in 1992, and is nowadays a fully-fledged regulated market that serves as a venue for companies to raise capital finance. It provides a structure for admission of financial instruments to its recognised lists which may subsequently be traded on a regulated, transparent and orderly marketplace.
