Hotelier Winston J Zahra has announced his latest project – a safari-style overnight lodge experience at Chester Zoo, set to open in August 2025.

The development marks the first time the UK zoo will offer overnight stays.

According to their website, the Chester Zoo lodges will offer guests accommodation designed to reflect the aesthetics of the African savannah, combined with modern comforts.

Visitors will be able to observe giraffes from their lodges, take part in behind-the-scenes conservation experiences with zoo experts, and enjoy curated dining experiences. The project aligns with Chester Zoo’s broader conservation efforts, with proceeds from the stays directly supporting wildlife preservation initiatives in Africa.

Mr Zahra began his career by building the Island Hotels Group in Malta before expanding his expertise internationally. In 2018, he became CEO of GG Hospitality, later founding Troo Hospitality in 2022, a company focused on hotel management. His career has spanned both development and operations, earning him a reputation for elevating service standards.

Mr Zahra expressed his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as a “very special” addition to his portfolio.
