Former Malta International Airport CEO Peter Bolech has passed away, the airport announced.
Mr Bolech, an Austrian national who used to form part of the management of Vienna International Airport, became the MIA’s first CEO following its 2002 privatisation.
He served in the role until 2007, when he was succeeded by Julian Jaeger.
MIA paid tribute to its late CEO, stating that his leadership “laid the groundwork for the organisation's growth and success in the years that followed”.
“Beyond his professional achievements, he will be remembered as a visionary leader who valued people, and brought the same passion he had for aviation to his love of nature and classical music, generously supporting the local arts scene throughout his time with the company,” the airport said.
“Our thoughts are with his loved ones, and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. May he rest in peace.”
The iGaming professional brings with him more than 15 years of experience in different roles.
