Summer is a time of relaxation, peace of mind, and moments spent with the ones we cherish the most.

However, it is also an opportunity to seek self-improvement and develop one’s abilities further, especially for business leaders.

Nirav Patel, CEO of Andaria Financial Services, exemplifies this way of thinking, with him striving to establish a better work-life balance and focus on different goals he has in mind.

For the latest instalment of this year’s MaltaCEOs.mt summer interview series, we caught up with Nirav to fill us in on how he will use this summer to get some much-needed relaxation and also improve himself on a professional level.

Nirav was appointed CEO at Andaria Financial Services in 2020, bringing more than 10 years of payment and banking experience to the firm. In between travelling for conferences and being at the helm of a growing fintech company, he still manages to find time for himself.

Are you a summer person, or do you prefer winter? Why?

I must admit, I’m more of a summer person. There’s something about the warmth and sunshine that lifts my spirits and energises me. I enjoy the longer days and the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities.

Are you looking forward to this summer in particular? Why?

Absolutely! This summer holds special significance for me because I’ve been working tirelessly on a major project that is set to launch soon. I’m eagerly looking forward to taking some well-deserved time off to relax, recharge, and celebrate the accomplishments with my loved ones.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the summer season? Why?

My favourite activity during the summer season is definitely spending time at the beach. There’s nothing quite like feeling the sand between my toes, listening to the soothing sound of waves, and basking in the sun’s rays. It’s a perfect way for me to unwind and find inspiration.

Do you prefer going out or staying inside during the hotter months?

Although I appreciate the comfort of indoor spaces, I tend to gravitate towards spending time outdoors during the summer season. Whether it’s going for a hike, organising a barbecue with friends and family, or simply enjoying a picnic in the park, being in nature rejuvenates me and helps me clear my mind.

Will you be going abroad? If yes, where to and why?

Yes, I have plans to travel abroad this summer. My destination of choice is Greece. I’ve always been captivated by its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and delicious cuisine. Exploring the ancient ruins, soaking in the vibrant culture, and indulging in local delicacies are experiences I’m eagerly anticipating.

What’s your dream summer destination? Why?

My dream summer destination would be the Maldives. The crystal-clear turquoise waters, pristine white sandy beaches, and the sense of serenity it offers make it an idyllic paradise. I envision myself unwinding in a luxurious overwater villa, enjoying the breathtaking views, and embracing the tranquillity of the surroundings.

What’s your best holiday experience?

One of my most memorable holiday experiences was when I embarked on a backpacking trip across Europe. It was a transformative journey where I had the opportunity to immerse myself in diverse cultures, connect with people from all walks of life, and create lasting memories. The freedom and adventure of exploring new destinations made it truly unforgettable.

What’s your worst holiday experience?

I did have a disappointing holiday experience a few years ago when a long-awaited trip had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. It was disappointing because I had invested time and energy into planning and was looking forward to that particular getaway. However, I believe that challenges often present new opportunities, and I was able to turn that disappointment into a chance for self-reflection and find alternative ways to relax and recharge.

Companies are encouraged to invest to stay ahead of the curve. As a business leader, how will you be investing in yourself this summer?

As a business leader, I understand the importance of continuous learning and growth. This summer, I plan to invest in myself by enrolling in a leadership development program. It will provide me with valuable insights, skills, and strategies to navigate the evolving business landscape and stay ahead of the curve. I believe that investing in personal and professional development ultimately benefits both myself and our organisation.

From recharging your batteries to taking on a huge task – do you have any particular goals for the summer?

My primary goal for this summer is to strike a balance between recharging my batteries and tackling a significant task. I want to take time to disconnect from work, spend quality time with loved ones, and enjoy leisure activities that bring me joy and inspiration.

Simultaneously, I aim to dive into a new project that will challenge me intellectually and contribute to the growth of our business.
