AX Group Chairman and Founder Angelo Xuereb has been recognised with the prestigious Company of the Year Award during the Malta Stock Exchange’s Annual Awards Dinner, marking a significant milestone in the Group’s 50th anniversary year.

Reflecting on the recognition, Mr Xuereb said the timing carried particular meaning for the business. “Being recognised by the Malta Stock Exchange, during our 50th anniversary year, carries special significance for us,” he remarked. “What began as a vision, born of humble beginnings, has grown into a legacy, one guided by the same principles that have long defined the Malta Stock Exchange.”

During his address, Mr Xuereb looked back on AX Group’s decades-long relationship with the Exchange, starting with a landmark moment in 1997 when the Suncrest Hotel became the first hospitality company to be listed. This was followed by the listings of AX Group and AX Real Estate, developments which reinforced the Group’s emphasis on accountability and sound governance.

“Every time we have approached the market, the public has responded with confidence. That trust is the result of 50 years of consistency, of valuing quality over quantity, and of standing behind what we promise,” he noted.

The award also serves as acknowledgment of AX Group’s structured approach to succession. Mr Xuereb emphasised the importance of balancing tradition with renewal, saying this equilibrium “keeps us united and moving in the same direction.”

Today, his daughters Claire Xuereb – Director for Hospitality and Care – and Denise Xuereb – Director for Construction and CEO of Real Estate – hold senior roles within the organisation, each “leading with conviction and purpose.” He also highlighted the work of Group CEO Michael Warrington, whose “leadership and perspective have helped us evolve whilst ensuring that governance at AX Group is not only strong on paper but lived every day.”

From its origins in construction, AX Group has expanded into a multifaceted organisation active in hospitality, construction, care, wellness, and property development. Its portfolio features several landmark projects, including Valletta Cruise Port and Waterfront, AX ODYCY in Qawra, The Palace and The Victoria hotels in Sliema, Rosselli and The Saint John in Valletta, Hilltop Retirement Village, Simblija Care Home, and the Verdala Terraces and Verdala Wellness Hotel in Rabat.

Today, the group employs more than 1,300 people and continues to focus on long-term value creation and responsible development across its sectors.

Closing his remarks, Mr Xuereb said, “As we mark our 50th anniversary, this award is a fitting conclusion to a defining year for AX Group. It recognises not only a successful business, but a family that has remained constant in its values and consistent in its vision.”
