Maritime industry specialist and Fenech & Fenech Advocates Partner Ann Fenech has been included in Lloyd's List of shipping industry's 100 most influential people for 2023.

Dr Fenech, who was elected as the first female President of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) in October 2022, was lauded for her efforts in helping “raise the profile” of the 126-year-old organisation.

The Malta Maritime Forum (MMF), of which she is a Board Member, congratulated Dr Fenech on the inclusion. The 2023 Edition 14 includes owners of the world’s largest fleets, box port operators, technology leaders, maritime lawyers, ship managers, and shipbrokers, amongst others.

The MMF stated that this is “yet another remarkable achievement” by its active Board Member and Co-Founder in a “long list of accomplishments throughout her career”.

Aside from her appointment as CMI President, the publication also credited Dr Fenech for her sterling work in serving as the CMI coordinator at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, which deliberated the convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships and seeing it through until it was signed by 15 countries at a ceremony in Beijing last September, which she herself was invited to address.

Commenting on the publication, Dr Fenech acknowledged the importance for policymakers to reach out to industry leaders who, in turn, are to work closely with their Governments on seeking positions that are vital for the industry and the common good.

“This is indeed yet another proud moment for Dr Fenech, for the MMF, and for Malta,” the MMF concluded.

Dr Fenech has extensive experience in disputes ranging from ship building contracts to immediate casualty response acting for the most important international maritime operators. She is also vastly experienced in judicial sales having conducted various ones through auctions and court approved private sales. She has worked at Malta-based law-firm Fenech & Fenech Advocates for over 32 years, during which time she set up the Marine Litigation Department.
