Board advisor and independent non-executive director Anita Mangion has been unanimously elected President of the Malta Netball Association (MNA).
Ms Mangion brings together extensive corporate and governance experience with a 30-year involvement in netball, having served as a player, Malta representative, coach, club President and MNA delegate. She also remains actively involved in the sport as a Head Coach.
Announcing her appointment, Ms Mangion described taking on the presidency as both a “privilege and a responsibility”, outlining youth development, inclusivity and stronger pathways into national representation among her priorities for the coming term.
“My vision for the coming term is clear: putting youth development at the heart of our future, strengthening the pathway from grassroots participation to national representation, promoting inclusivity, and supporting the development of players and officials, with performance, wellbeing and resilience at the core,” she said.
She has a professional career spanning more than 25 years of executive, entrepreneurial and strategic leadership across regulated financial services, technology, the public sector and purpose-led organisations.
Ms Mangion also has more than 14 years of governance and board experience and has advised on over 50 strategic and transformation initiatives. Her career has included founding an early Maltese digital venture, leading enterprise change within global technology and financial institutions, and serving on boards across both commercial and voluntary organisations.
She has also undertaken executive education with MIT Sloan, Oxford and Indiana University, alongside specialist programmes covering banking, board governance and artificial intelligence.
“Netball is much more than a sport. It is rooted in our communities and builds confidence, resilience, teamwork, discipline and a sense of belonging, particularly among young people,” she added.
Acknowledging that challenges lie ahead, Ms Mangion said she has been encouraged by the enthusiasm and willingness to contribute within Malta's netball community.
“I am grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to this next chapter – working together to create opportunities for the next generation to grow as athletes, leaders and positive contributors to our communities,” she concluded.
