MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc has announced the appointment of Christian Portelli as Executive Director of the Bank and its parent company, MDB Group Limited, with effect from 4th February 2026, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Mr Portelli has been active in the technology sector since 2002, with experience spanning financial services and iGaming environments, primarily in technical leadership and delivery roles focused on the design, build and implementation of digital platforms in regulated settings.

He joined MeDirect in 2018 as Manager of DevOps and progressed to Head of Information Technology before being appointed Chief Technology Officer, a role he has held for the past five years. As CTO, he has been responsible for the design, delivery and ongoing evolution of the Bank’s proprietary banking platform, including the development of its digital banking channels and core underlying systems.

Prior to joining MeDirect, Mr Portelli spent over 16 years at CSL Data Centre Services, where he served as Technical Specialist and later as Service Manager.

Throughout his career, he has also been involved in advisory roles, particularly in relation to digital channel development, systems integration and technology architecture for start-ups operating in the iGaming and digital assets sectors.

According to the company announcement, Mr Portelli’s principal activities outside the Bank consist of technology-related advisory roles. Over the past five years, he has held and continues to hold positions including Non-Executive Director at Inia.AI, Director at Trio Developments Limited, and Board Advisor to JCL Holdings Limited.
