BOV

Finance veteran Deborah Schembri has been appointed to Bank of Valletta’s (BOV) Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Deborah Schembri

The appointment took place during the bank’s latest Annual General Meeting, held remotely on 2nd June 2022.

Ms Schembri was one of four individuals who submitted their nominations for the role of Director, after two vacancies for the roles of Non-Executive Directors arose.

One of the four nominations was subsequently withdrawn, and the remaining three nominees were deemed to be fit and proper to act as Non-Executive Directors by the bank’s Nominations and Remuneration Committee.

Another one of the three nominees eventually withdrew their nomination, making Ms Schembri and James Grech the only two nominees left.

In light of the fact that there were as many nominees as there were vacancies, no election took place and Ms Schembri and Mr Grech were automatically appointed Non-Executive Directors.

Ms Schembri’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval and her appointment will become effective from the date of such approval.

Following these appointments, BOV’s Board of Directors is composed of the following: Gordon Cordina, Kevin J. Borg, Miguel Borg, Diane Bugeja, Elizabeth Camilleri, James Grech, Rick Hunkin, Alfred Lupi, Anita Mangion, Alfred Mifsud, Antonio Piras, Deborah Schembri, and Godfrey Swain.

Ms Schembri, a Certified Public Accountant, holds over 20 years of experience in the financial services, gaming, caring, construction and property development, oil and fuel, transport, pest control, hospitality, and travel industries.

She currently serves as Group CFO at a major local diversified group operating locally and internationally. She had previously spent 10 years serving as CEO and Managing Director of a financial services organisation.
