Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) CEO Anita Mifsud firmly believes that to stand out in the crowd, a combination of hard work, continuous self-improvement and a commitment to excellence are essential for success.
In comments shared to Ms Mifsud’s online network, the events industry leader – who has helmed the MFCC since January 2014 and is also CEO of Right Structures – a bespoke event structure company, she provided her own ‘ingredients’ for success which any member of a workplace can and should follow.
She starts off with emphasising the importance of overcoming challenges at the workplace, as challenges present “opportunities to develop me skills”, “learn from mistakes” and “find innovative solutions”.
“It also demonstrates your resilience, determination, and ability to overcome obstacles, which are highly valued qualities in the workplace,” she adds.
Ms Mifsud goes on to provide her own ‘listicle’ detailing how an individual, or an organisation, can stand tall amid fierce competition:
1. Develop expertise: Continuously enhance your knowledge and skills in your field. Stay up to date with industry trends, attend relevant training and workshops, and seek opportunities to expand your expertise. Becoming a subject matter expert will give you a competitive edge.
2. Embrace innovation: Be open to new ideas and technologies. Look for ways to improve processes, streamline workflows, and enhance productivity. Embracing innovation and being proactive in implementing positive changes will make you a valuable asset to any organisation.
3. Build a strong network: Cultivate relationships with colleagues, industry professionals, and mentors. Networking provides access to new opportunities, insights, and potential collaborations. Actively participate in professional associations, attend conferences, and engage in online communities to expand your network.
4. Demonstrate a strong work ethic: Be reliable, punctual, and dedicated to your work. Go above and beyond your job description when necessary, and consistently deliver high-quality results. Employers appreciate individuals who take initiative and show commitment to their roles.
5. Communicate effectively: Develop strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Clearly articulate your ideas, actively listen to others, and adapt your communication style to different audiences. Effective communication fosters collaboration, builds relationships, and helps you convey your value to others.
6. Stay adaptable and resilient: In a competitive environment, change is inevitable. Develop adaptability and resilience to navigate uncertainties and challenges.
