Amanda Xuereb

Amanda Xuereb, Head of Business Development at Toly Group, took to social media to share certain measures she takes to ensure that her remote team remains connected.

“Having the opportunity to work remotely is amazing and slowly becoming the norm for those jobs which allow this – although remote working doesn’t come without its challenges,” Ms Xuereb wrote.

“As a Manager of a remote team, I have to ensure no one feels disconnected. I need to continue to provide a sense of engagement as otherwise my team can sometimes feel detached from myself and their co-workers,” she continued.

Ms Xuereb started off by suggesting remote workers to “foster relationships” – “make time for non-work chats as you would in the workplace and use video calling to maintain face-to-face contact,” she said.

The Head of Business Development also recommended “mak[ing] remote working work for you” – meaning that one should re-organise their at-home workspace in whatever way works best for them.

“Write a daily to-do list,” Ms Xuereb continued, “set out a list of realistic, achievable tasks to keep you focused.”

Finally, Ms Xuereb told her followers working from home to “get dressed.”

“Changing into working clothes will help you mentally switch to productive work mode. It will also help you distinguish between ‘home working’ and ‘home life’,” she concluded.

Ms Xuereb joined Toly Products back in 2010 as a General Manager for the company’s Sales department. She held that position for upwards of six years, that is, up until 2017. In January 2020 she was appointed as the company’s Chief Business Development Officer and has held that role ever since.
