HSBC Malta CEO Geoffrey Fichte is eager to partake in local traditions as he celebrates his first New Year since he was tasked with leading the bank’s operations in Malta.
Earlier this year, HSBC Malta announced that Simon Vaughan Johnson would be leaving his post as CEO of the bank, with Mr Fichte taking his place at the start of last May.
Prior to his role in Malta, Mr Fichte had established himself as a seasoned financial services professional, having occupied a number of positions within the wider HSBC Group.
Now, as part of MaltaCEOs.mt’s end-of-year series and around 10 months after the announcement of his appointment was first made, he looks back on his first few months in Malta, as well as how he wants to celebrate the turn of the year.
Being at the helm of one of Malta’s largest banks is no mean feat, and given his relatively short time in Malta, Mr Fichte is determined to do his best to add value to HSBC Malta and assist both customers and colleagues.
Resilient, change, and optimism.
Change is the only constant in banking as we support customers and their dynamic needs. We are making strong progress thanks to a resilient local economy, loyal customers, our professional team and the strong backing of our global financial group.
Having moved to Malta 10 months ago, I’ve learnt a lot and I’m trying my best to add value to HSBC, making life easier for our customers and helping my colleagues perform at their best.
I’m most grateful for being warmly welcomed into this beautiful country, as well as the strong support from the Board of Directors, customers, and colleagues. It’s great to feel part of the community.
In Malta with the family, participating in local traditions, exploring, and relaxing a bit.
There will be good growth opportunities across various sectors, although we’ll have to help our clients navigate the volatile macroeconomic challenges externally.
I want to continue to learn about new technologies and ESG to better support customers and colleagues.
I’d like to free up time to spend more time coaching colleagues and also playing some sport!
I see myself here in Malta, having learnt a lot, loving my job as always, and hopefully in good health and spirits; grateful for having made accomplishments with the team.
Also, celebrating HSBC’s 25th anniversary in Malta!
