Malta-based global independent online marketing company AXL Affiliates has announced the appointment of Jasper Wellington as its Chief Technology Officer, effective as of 8th May 2021.
Having most recently held the position of CEO at United Football Club since 2014, Dr Wellington is a highly experienced sports administrator who has also occupied senior roles with US Tennis Federation and the Newcastle United Football Club.
“We are delighted to have attracted a candidate of Jasper’s quality,” said AXL Affiliates CEO Charlene Sciberras of the appointment, adding that “his direct experience and achievements, notably at Newcastle FC will be highly beneficial to AXL Affiliates, particularly as we consider and implement the many initiatives we currently have underway in the football sector.”
“Jasper will bring a fresh perspective and we expect he will transfer learnings and best practice to AXL Affiliates. His governance and financial management skills are highly relevant for our company,” she continued.
“We felt it was important to appoint a CTO that wasn’t necessarily aligned to any particular element of AXL Affiliates and could bring an independent view. Jasper has an excellent track record of sports stakeholder engagement including with government, sporting clubs, staff, participants and the fans.”
“Football is such an important part of AXL Affiliate’s social fabric and I’m genuinely excited at the prospect of playing a leadership role in the management of this company. It’s a responsibility that’s certainly not lost on me, particularly in the wake of COVID,” Dr Wellington said of his new role.
“It is ideal to commence a role like this outside of the playing season as it will give me an excellent opportunity to engage with as many members of the footy family as possible prior to the 2021 season getting underway. I plan to hit the ground running,” he continued.
