Georgios N. Yannakakis, Director of the Institute of Digital Games within the University of Malta (UoM), has been made Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Games Journal.
UoM described said journal as ‘the premier venue for technical games research’.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate Prof. Yannakakis for his new appointment. He is a prominent scientist with world-class impact and such appointment is another clear recognition of his hard work and commitment to excellence in technical games research,” UoM Rector Alfred Vella said.
“Such ties to the global research community are particularly important as the Institute of Digital Games and the University of Malta expand significantly their research impact and their international outreach,” Prof. Vella continued.
This appointment is considered as recognition for the world-class research profile of the Institute of Digital Games, thus putting UoM at the very centre of the game research map.
The Institute has most recently been ranked among the top ten technical games research institutes and among the top 25 game design schools by the Princeton Review.
“This appointment comes with feelings of gratitude and responsibility. I feel gratitude for the work of the previous Editor in Chiefs and the scientific community that successfully established this journal,” Prof. Yannakakis said.
“Thanks to their efforts, IEEE Transactions on Games is nowadays considered one of the premier venues for academic work in the larger area of technical games research. I also feel a great deal of responsibility that is tied to this new Editor in Chief role,” he concluded.
