Joseph Mifsud Grima, a Malta-based chartered insurer specialising in captive insurance, has been named to the 2026 Forty Under 40 list by Captive Review, a recognition that highlights emerging leaders in the global captive insurance sector.

In a statement shared online, Mr Mifsud Grima described the recognition as an honour and acknowledged the professional significance of being included among both current and past awardees. He said he intends to uphold the standards associated with the distinction throughout his career.

“I am incredibly honoured to be named to the 2026 Forty under 40 list by Captive Review,” he wrote, extending his thanks to the judging panel and organisers for their work in compiling this year’s cohort.

Mr Mifsud Grima is currently COO of Fresenius Medical Care’s global operations, where he oversees underwriting and claims functions for the group’s captive entity. His role also includes active participation in risk management and investment committees, as well as contributing to the development of insurance strategies designed to support the organisation’s wider healthcare objectives.

Reflecting on his professional journey, he expressed gratitude to colleagues across Malta, Germany and other international teams within the group, noting the trust placed in him to evolve the company’s captive insurance strategy in a way that ultimately benefits patients. He highlighted the organisation’s core values of care, connection and commitment as central to both its operations and career development.

He also acknowledged the influence of mentors and former colleagues, as well as the personal support of his family and close network.

Mr Mifsud Grima has built his career around the design and management of complex multinational financial risk structures, with a particular focus on captive insurance. His work includes driving business development and developing insurance solutions to address risk exposures and coverage gaps within global corporate frameworks.

He holds a Master of Science in Finance and Financial Law with distinction from the University of London, where his research examined the short term impact of pandemics on bank profitability. He also graduated with first class honours in financial services from Edinburgh Napier University and holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Malta.

The Forty Under 40 list recognises young professionals who are making a notable impact within the captive insurance industry.
