Malta Cooperative Foundation CEO Claudio Farrugia

Malta Cooperative Federation (MCF) on Wednesday (today) announced the appointment of Claudio Farrugia as its new CEO.

He succeeds Rolan Micallef Attard, who held the role since the federation’s inception 12 years ago. Mr Micallef Attard is also currently the federation’s Secretary General.

Mr Farrugia was formally introduced to MCF’s member cooperatives during the Annual General Meeting on 27th June 2024.

MCF stated that his appointment signifies a new era for the federation, as it aims to continue supporting, strengthening, and advocating for cooperative enterprises in Malta.

Mr Farrugia brings extensive experience to his new role and is described as a proactive leader with a diverse career encompassing the private, public, and non-profit sectors. His deep-rooted expertise in analytical and financial management, change management, and people development positions him well to steer MCF into its next phase.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr Farrugia is also known for his contributions to Maltese media, offering analysis and commentary on socio-economic issues. His insights are aimed at fostering public discourse on critical national topics.

Commenting on his new role, he remarked: “The cooperative business model is highly flexible, democratic, and both economically and socially viable.”

“In collaboration with the council, I am eager to enhance the federation’s support for cooperative enterprises, promote innovation, engage in advocacy, and ensure sustainable growth within this sector,” Mr Farrugia continued.

MCF aims to represent and be a unified voice of Maltese cooperatives bot in national and international forums, and to promote the cooperative model to the general public. It also seeks to provide services to its member societies including training and consultancy services, and offer its members opportunities to network and synergise.
