“As Malta prepares to host WTTC’s Global Summit in Valletta, it will have the opportunity to showcase its unique heritage, hospitality, and vision for sustainable growth to industry leaders from around the world,” World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) President & CEO Gloria Guevara said.

Her comments come as the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) becomes a Destination Partner of the WTTC, strengthening Malta’s ties with the global travel and tourism industry ahead of the WTTC Global Summit, taking place in Valletta from 7th to 9th October 2026.

MTA CEO Carlo Micallef described the Destination Partnership as “a major step” for the authority, saying it would give Malta a direct platform to connect with leading decision-makers.

“As we prepare to host the 2026 Global Summit in Valletta, aligning with the WTTC, highlights our strong commitment to continue developing a sustainable and resilient tourism industry for the Maltese Islands, building on the unique experiences and rich heritage that only Malta can offer,” Mr Micallef said.

Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said that “this Destination Partnership strengthens Malta’s engagement with leading voices in the global tourism industry and provides an important platform to share our experience, while also learning from international partners and identifying new opportunities for sustainable growth,” he said.

The summit is expected to bring together CEOs, Government ministers, investors and senior industry figures from across the international tourism sector, giving Malta an opportunity to position itself at the centre of discussions on the future of Travel & Tourism.

For Malta’s tourism and wider business community, the event could provide opportunities to build international partnerships, engage directly with investors and strengthen the country’s profile as a competitive year-round destination.

It will also give Malta a platform to highlight its approach to sustainable growth, innovation and the development of a higher-quality tourism offering, as the sector continues to evolve beyond traditional measures of visitor numbers.

The WTTC partnership comes as Malta seeks to further consolidate its position within the international tourism market and strengthen its appeal as a destination throughout the year.
