Experienced legal practitioner Manfred Galdes has been appointed Partner at Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal (FFF Legal), the law firm’s Partners announced on Wednesday. His appointment came into effect on 1st May 2023.
Dr Galdes is a legal practitioner with over 20 years of experience, primarily specialising in anti-money laundering regulation and financial crime compliance.
Aside from his new role, he is also Managing Partner at ARQ Group, a group of independent professional services organisations that FFF Legal is a founding partner of. ARQ Group combines expertise in accountancy, taxation, legal services, fiduciary and trust services, business advisory and corporate services within one organisation. Dr Galdes also founded and leads the group’s risk and compliance practice area.
He holds a Doctor of Laws from University of Malta and a Master of Laws in EU Commercial Law from University of Leicester. He was appointed Director at the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) in 2008, an organisation he led for eight years until his transition to private practice in 2016. Since then, he has served as Senior Consultant to FFF Legal.
Welcoming him to the partnership board, Co-Founding Partner Christian Farrugia remarked that Dr Galdes’s “expertise, integrity and work ethic have already contributed to the success of the law firm” since he joined as a Senior Consultant six years ago.
“My Partners and I are certain that his appointment to the role of Partner will further strengthen the firm’s management structure as well as its footprint in the industry regulatory space,” Dr Farrugia added.
Commenting on his new role, Dr Galdes said that he is “honoured” to take on the position, and looks forward to “contributing towards consolidating FFF Legal’s position as one of the top law firms in Malta” within the regulatory and compliance space.
“This practice area has increased in importance over the past few years and will surely be one of the major growth areas for law firms in the years to come,” he continued.
