Mifsud Brothers Ltd has appointed Michela Mifsud as its new Managing Director, making her the first woman to lead the sixth-generation family business in its 164-year history.

Ms Mifsud has been part of the company’s 20Twenty leadership team since 2012, working alongside her father, Ivan A. Mifsud, and gaining in-depth experience across the business. She succeeds him in the top role, continuing the family’s long-standing involvement in Malta’s tourism and cruise sectors.

“Taking on the role of Managing Director is more than a professional achievement – it is a deeply personal journey,” she said.

Established in 1860 under the name C & G Fratelli Mifsud, the company’s original function was to attend vessels entering the Grand Harbour. It was renamed Mifsud Brothers Ltd in 1933.

A key milestone in its growth came between 1945 and 1950, when under the leadership of Paul Mifsud, the company was appointed general agents for Cunard White Star Passenger Line, Cunard Steam Cargo Line, and Swan Hellenic. This cemented its position in the cruise and shipping sectors.

In the 1960s, as Malta’s tourism industry expanded with the rise of commercial air travel, the company diversified into the hotel sector and later into destination management. Today, Mifsud Brothers Ltd remains active in luxury tourism, shipping, and cruise services, with plans to further its sustainability initiatives and expand its global reach under Ms Mifsud’s leadership.
