Papaya Ltd has supported a new MSPCA initiative aimed at improving the adoption experience for families taking in rescue animals.

The MSPCA recently brought together families who have adopted dogs from its Floriana shelter for a practical workshop focused on early behavioural challenges and post-adoption adjustment. The session also saw the launch of The Road to Home, a new educational booklet produced with support from Papaya Ltd and other contributors.

The workshop served to address issues commonly faced in the first weeks of adoption, with MSPCA staff providing guidance while encouraging adopters to share their own experiences.

Papaya Ltd CEO Igor Badanov said the company’s involvement reflects its focus on community initiatives that offer real value. “Helping MSPCA strengthen its adoption and education programmes is a meaningful step toward improving animal welfare in Malta,” he said, adding that the company is proud to contribute to this mission.

Canine training specialist Alison Azzopardi led an interactive session outlining how adopters can establish routines, identify behavioural signals, and support animals dealing with fear, separation behaviours, or uncertainty. She also addressed case-by-case questions raised by families.

Alongside the workshop, MSPCA introduced The Road to Home, a guide covering the practical and emotional aspects of integrating a rescue animal into a household. It includes information on behaviour, enrichment, safety, and legal obligations for pet guardians in Malta. Papaya Ltd supported its development as part of its wider commitment to animal welfare education.

MSPCA President Barbara Cassar Torreggiani said the booklet was created to give adopters concrete guidance after the adoption papers are signed. She stressed that thorough adoptions are crucial, noting that introducing an animal into a family can alter dynamics and requires both preparation and support. The initiative, she said, aims to build adopters’ confidence and awareness throughout this process.

The event closed with open discussions between adopters and MSPCA trainers, giving families space to address challenges and share progress as their pets settle into their new environments.
