Db CEO Robert Debono has welcomed the imminent reopening of a Hard Rock Cafe at St George’s Bay, six years after its original Bay Street outlet closed down.
The Bay Street outlet opened in 2000 as Malta’s first Hard Rock Cafe and was later joined by locations at Malta International Airport and the Valletta Waterfront.
However, it closed its doors in 2020 and was eventually replaced by Rainforest Cafe. Now, a new Hard Rock Cafe is set to open on the other side of the bay as part of the St George’s Bay project.
“For many people in Malta, that cafe was their first experience of the brand, but it quickly became a local favourite,” Mr Debono said of the original Hard Rock Cafe.
“Family celebrations, hen’s parties, bachelor parties, nights out before the nights out, most of us have a memory there. Whether it was a special anniversary we celebrated, a first date or a first summer job.”
“When it closed 20 years later, back in 2020, we heard so many stories from people who still felt connected to the place.”
“So I’m very excited that, in the coming weeks, people can start reliving their memories a stone’s throw from the original location in St George’s Bay.”
"A full live music stage and those famous gourmet burgers. An exciting new chapter is being written from what started in Bay Street in 2000.”
