“Time to bid farewell to the Spade! It has been a pleasure working at PokerStars for the last five years, and I am very grateful for all the lessons learnt through the group’s rapid transition,” he wrote.

“I am now excited to move onto the next chapter with Smarkets. The product itself is what sold the move, and I am now super excited to join this team within the Technical Compliance space,” Mr Caruana concluded.

The Head of Technical Compliance had joined gaming giant PokerStars in September 2017 as Operations Manager. Throughout the years that followed, he was promoted to Sports Operations Manager and Senior Sports Operations Manager.

Mr Caruana’s earlier experiences include a short stint as UK Account Manager at ComeOn Group, and a two-year tenure at HSBC Malta, throughout which he served as Customer Service Representative, Academy Coach, and Team Manager.

Smarkets, Mr Caruana’s new place of work, is a London-based, award-winning sports betting company seeking to bring a professional and tech-first approach to the industry.
