Entrepreneur Mariella Camilleri on Wednesday highlighted the significance of moving on from the past and remaining focused on the present, both on a personal level and from a business perspective.

Ms Camilleri describes herself as an “insightful Executive and an Audit Committee Financial Expert”, with a wide array of experience from various companies. She is President at the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW)’s Malta operations, and is also a Member of the Board of Directors at Magtech Limited. She is vastly experienced in negotiations, including multinational transactions, which enhances her capabilities at board-level for “oversight and strategic decisions”.

“Sometimes things may seem that they will never happen, and then voila, the cards just fall into place and it all comes to fruition,” she said.

“Life always seems to take a turn when you least expect it”, she remarked, before adding that unfortunately these are not always “for the best”. “However, I have always strongly believed that you have to live for and in the moment,” she said.

She explained that “yesterday is gone and hopefully we took the best lessons from it”, while nobody is able to predict what will happen in the future. The main task is to try to “mitigate unforeseen issues” as much as possible.

“Today is where it all is. We have to live in the moment, whether on a personal level or from a business perspective. We need to be cognisant of our surroundings, what is going on, whether the direction we are taking is truly what is best currently,” Ms Camilleri added.

She also noted that people also need to be ready to “pivot”, something which is being done frequently nowadays. “Being nimble is what keeps us moving forward and not being at a standstill or going in reverse,” she said.

These reflections came as she was visiting Paris, one of the places she has had on her bucket list for “so, so many years”, yet something “always seemed to happen to prevent realisation”.

“Then I took an opportunity to do some more good and today I find myself fulfilling my wish and being here! Maybe the wish was not fulfilled to the max, but I pivoted and here I am,” she concluded.
