KENNETH FARRUGIA

Swimming is a relaxing activity that many cherish during the hot summer months.

Given the excruciatingly high temperatures Malta faces, it is no wonder why many head towards the sea to get their hard-earned rest.

Bank of Valletta plc (BOV) CEO Kenneth Farrugia is one of those people, seeking comfort in enjoying a swim to unwind and relax.

For the latest instalment of this year’s MaltaCEOs.mt summer interview series, we spoke to Kenneth to find out more about what makes summer so special to him and how he plans to work on himself during the coming months.

Since joining BOV in 1985, Kenneth has served in various executive positions, and was named CEO last year. Despite leading one of Malta’s largest banks, a role that undoubtedly comes with its fair share of commitments and a hefty workload, he still finds room to take some well-needed breaks during summer.

Are you a summer person, or do you prefer winter? Why?

Summer, as it allows me to swim more frequently.

Are you looking forward to this summer in particular? Why?

Yes, as summer also allows for more frequent networking interactions.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the summer season? Why?

Swimming. I find this sport to be less physically taxing on the body than other sports such as running and gym work.

Do you prefer going out or staying inside during the summer season?

Going out, of course.

Will you be going abroad this summer? If yes, where to and why?

Yes, to Tunisia for a reunion with friends.

What’s your dream summer destination? Why?

I wish to visit Latin America as I have never visited this region.

What’s your best holiday experience?

My trip to Japan in 2018.

What’s your worst holiday experience?

Stranded in an airport for 27 hours after a 15-hour flight.

Companies are encouraged to invest to stay ahead of the curve. As a business leader, how will you be investing in yourself this summer?

I’ll be taking part in more wellness activities and I’m considering starting yoga sessions again. I also aim to exert more discipline in switching off in my free time.

From recharging your batteries to taking on a huge task – do you have any particular goals for the summer?

Nothing in particular, which is unusual when compared to previous summers.
