Michael Mifsud, CEO of Yachting Malta, has announced that he has accepted a new role on the International Regulations Commission of World Sailing, which is the world governing body for the sport, recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
World Sailing Commissions are specialist bodies appointed by and report to the organisation’s Board of Directors.
Speaking to MaltaCEOs.mt, Mr Mifsud, who is also President of the Malta Sailing Federation, says he is “very happy” with the appointment, which comes days after the conclusion of a “very successful” event – the sailing competition within the Games for the Small States of Europe (GSSE), which took place in Malta.
He joins fellow sailing stakeholders from Great Britain, Finland, Greece and New Zealand on the International Regulations Committee, which has been established to “provide advice on matters related to the regulation of recreational boats or craft by government actions or otherwise”.
Yachting Malta is a public-private partnership between the Government of Malta and the Royal Malta Yacht Club set up to promote Malta as a destination of sailing and yachting-related events.
Apart from the GSSE competition, Malta also hosted the ORC European Championship in May, bringing over 400 athletes to the country.
