‘A testament to the bank’s vision’ – APS launches Summer Festival 2022 programme

APS Bank has just launched the programme for the third edition of its Summer Festival.

Set to take place from 20th to 31st July at the University of Malta’s quadrangle, the third edition of the APS Summer Festival is being executed under the artistic direction of Annalisa Schembri.

“The content being offered this year is firmly rooted in our festival values, enabling us to produce a contemporary, inclusive, sustainable, and international arts festival that aims to entertain and inspire audiences and artists alike,” Ms Schembri said.

“We will also ensure to keep it boutique and bespoke, creating space for fringe festivals to exist and create a strong market for them locally,” she continued.

The festival’s musical line-up is set to include a series of locally renowned artists such as The Beangrowers, The New Victorians, Kantera, Walter Micallef, ManaTapu, and Skald.

One of the festival’s evenings will be solely dedicated to children, exhibiting a series of sensory-friendly shows developed especially for three different groups of young audiences, ranging from 0 to 11 years of age.

This evening will also include Chromatopia, a new show commissioned for the festival, as well as a number of other shows produced by More or Less Theatre and fun-loving duo Sean Briffa and Jeremy Grech.

“This 12-day programme is a testament to APS Bank’s vision to be the community bank in Malta. The richness of the content presents a palpable express of our corporate values – excellence, authenticity, passion, inclusiveness, and being contemporary,” APS Bank Head of Culture Rachael Blackburn said.

The festival will be hoosting a number of international acts, including Puerto Flamenco – a Seville-based dance troupe, Brazilian-Italian artists from Companhia Palma, and Italian artist Giovanni Risola.

The closing night of the APS Summer Festival will host a show curated in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring Mathias Camilleri with a circus art performance accompanied by spoken word written and performed specifically for the festival by Gabriel Lia.

A series of workshops through the festival will also be open for artists and practitioners of the local creative economy.

The festival is being supported by the University of Malta, Kinnie, and Atlas Insurance.
