Employees at local telecommunications company Melita Limited came together to raise funds to help cover the cost of a mobile X-Ray Machine for environmental NGO Nature Trust Malta.

The NGO will use said machine during the rehabilitation of rescued turtles.

Money for the X-Ray machine was raised on the initiative of Eleanor Sacco, a Senior HR Executive at Melita and an active Member of Nature Trust Malta.

“The mobile X-Ray machine will be extremely useful in our rehabilitation of rescued turtled. It will allow us to make sure that turtled which come into our care have not swallowed fishhooks, plastic items, or other harmful objects,” Nature Trust Malta President Vince Attard said.

“Nature Trust depends on the support of its members and the broader community to continue its work and on very effective initiatives such as this, which at the same time bring together work colleagues,” Mr Attard continued.

Founded in 1962, Nature Trust Malta is today one of the older and largest environmental NGOs in Malta dealing with the natural environment of the Maltese islands.

Over the years, the organization has worked and lobbied hard to get legal protection for various plants and animals in Malta, helping to save some local endemic species from extinction.

“While Melita, particularly through the Melita Foundation, is very active in directly supporting numerous social, educational, and cultural initiatives, we are always more than happy to help employees who may wish to support particular good causes,” Melita’s Head of HR, Jacqueline Abela, said.

“Eleanor’s commitment to Nature Trust is exemplary and it was great to see so many colleagues from across the business come together to support her,” she concluded.
