Local telecommunications company GO took to social media to pen a touching tribute to late employee Steven Sargent.

Mr Sargent had been a long-standing employee at GO, having joined the company as a Systems and Networks Engineer in 2004. Over the years, he consistently worked his way up, having held the roles of Manager Active Access Networks, Manager Outside Plant Planning, and most recently, Senior Manager Fixed Access.

“Today is a very sad day for us at GO. We are all absolutely devastated at this tragic event. Steven’s passing is such a great loss, on so many levels,” GO wrote.

“He was a positive force to reckon with, who always sought ways of making the best out of every situation. He is the architect behind Malta’s True Fibre network. His brilliance, his energy, his determination, is what built a phenomenal team at GO – a team that has been rolling out TrueFibre to our homes,” the company continued.

Mr Sargent tragically passed away yesterday, after being involved in a traffic accident in Triq Hal-Tarxien, Gudja.

“Thanks to Steven and his team, Malta will be one of the few countries in the EU that will have nationwide fibre coverage in the next three to four years. For Steven, customers always came first. Whenever there was a service outage, he was the first one to be in the trenches with his team obsessing over how to get our customers back online,” GO added.

“He was a natural teacher who was passionate about teaching others and passing on his expertise. He spent countless hours supporting his team, helping them learn and grow and paved a bright future for them,” the company added.

Tens of local business leaders took to the post’s comments section to pay tribute to Mr Sargent.

“I was so lucky to collaborate and learn from Mr Sargent for many years. During this challenging moment, our support goes to all his family, colleagues, and friends who are surely in shock in losing such a great friend,” wrote iMovo Chief Officer Business Development Joseph Casha.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter, his family, and friends. Life at GO will not be the same, but we take his spirit and will make sure that we continue on his legacy here, just as he would have wanted,” the company concluded.
