Recruitment specialist Francesca Ellul on Friday shed light on how companies should not be favouring older candidates over younger ones simply because of their age.

In a social media post, the Founder of recruitment firm Pursue Consultancy made reference to situations where younger candidates were told that they should not be expecting a particular salary given their age.

“This is something that has not only been said to me, but has been said by clients in relation to ‘young’ candidates I represent,” she said.

She explained that “age does not mean experience”, as only “experience means experience”.

“A 30-year-old with four years’ experience is not necessarily better suited for a leadership role over a 22-year-old candidate with the same experience,” she added.

Ms Ellul said that while their lives and careers have had “different trajectories”, they have been led to “the same place but at different times”.

“I encourage you to remove your preconceived notions of age in relation to success and seniority, and consider candidates for what they bring to the table,” she concluded.

Ms Ellul has a wide array of experience in the recruitment industry, having launched Pursue Consultancy late in 2021. Through the venture, she is able to support candidates through resume writing and consultancy services to find job opportunities either independently or through the firm as a recruitment agency. Prior to that, she worked in various recruitment-related positions at StreetHR, Nicholls Moisa, iGaming Elite, and Reed Specialist Recruitment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management, Business and Management from Study World Malta, and is primarily focused on building “authentic, long-term relationships” as a recruiter.
